BRIEF

This student project asked us to create a scrolling graphic narrative inspired by ‘Survival Stories | Meet the Scientist: Dr Claire Rowe’ by Zoe Sadokierski and Ceridwen Dovey,’ an article about marine scientist Dr Claire Rowe and her research findings on the upside-down jellyfish.

RESPONSE

I digitally illustrated a comic titled ‘Metamorphosis’, a personal anecdote about my struggles with gender identity parallel to the life cycle of the upside-down jellyfish from egg, to polyp, to jellyfish. The visual language comprises a monochrome blue colour scheme with soft, airbrushed forms, setting the vulnerable, melancholic tone of the comic whilst evoking the transparency and fluidity of water.

LET’S TALK!

I acknowledge the Dharug People as the Traditional Caretakers and Custodians of the Land on which I live, work and play. I pay my respects to their Elders past and present, and honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People as the first artists, designers and storytellers. Sovereignty was never ceded. This always was, always will be, Aboriginal Land.
